Easier inter-row management!

Finely shred grass, weeds and cover crops with the SDS Series shredders. Available in wide working widths of 57.5” to 79.9” (1.5 to 2.0 m)

KUHN SDS Series shredders offer growers an innovative solution to maintain grassy areas between the rows in orchards and vineyards. The proven gearbox and belt system drives the main cutting rotor, which uses hammer knives and two rows of counterknives to finely shred grass. Independent hydraulic drive means the auger discharge can be fine-tuned to match the ground speed and working conditions. Standard hydraulic side shift increases the reach of the machine for working under larger tree canopies.

YOUR BENEFITS

An Orchard & Vineyard Must Have

SDS_Auger.jpg

Side-Discharge Auger

The right-hand, side-discharge auger directs clippings from the cutting rotors to the base of trees or vines. In heavier conditions, such as prunings are light woody materials, the auger can be easily removed to prevent plugging. The auger is hydraulically driven, allowing the operator to adjust the speed of the auger to match working conditions.

Hitch & Offset

To extend the machine’s reach and facilitate work under wide tree canopies, the hitch is capable of an offset up to 13.8” (35 cm) to the right. This offset is hydraulically controlled so the operator can adjust the machine without having to leave the tractor seat. The headstock is compatible with Cat. 1 and 2 hitches.

Simplified Maintenance

Rotor Driveline

The main gearbox of the SDS is driven at a PTO speed of 540 rpm. The output shaft of the gearbox connects to a triple belt drive on the side of the machine to drive the main cutting rotor. This proven design is durable, while reducing noise and simplifying maintenance compared to a chain or gear drive.

Height Adjustment Roller

Height Adjustment Roller
A rear-mounted roller sets the cutting height of the machine and allows the machine to follow ground contours. Three adjustment slots are available to match the operator’s preferences, and convenient access holes on each side simplify greasing the roller.

Make Fine Work of Grass

Hammer Knives

The hammer knives power through grass, weeds and cover crops. These knives and the rotor tube are carefully manufactured and tested for ideal balance, which provides smoother operation and longer life.
